My friends would most likely call me a dogmatic knob slightly opinionated. Truth is I like a rant. Mostly for laughs, and the people who know or understand this find it quite amusing and entertaining. They ones who don’t get it, are annoyed, so either way, a win-win situation.
So, airfryers. I bought my first air fryer back in 2015. It was cheap device, from one of this online shops that sell chinese crap. And this is exactly what it was. Everything that I tried resulted in something ranging from mediocre to straight terrible. Fortunately, fairly soon, the “dishwasher safe, high quality” pot has more dents and scratches than shield and armour after the battle of XYZ. Cooking in it looked as as safe and hygienic as bbq on asbestos hot plate so I chucked the whole thing to the rubbish bin and moved on back to my airfryer-less life.
It was a few years later, I reckon around 2019, that the new airfryer cult emerged from the shadows. This new breed of kitchen appliance Jehova witnesses with apparent mission to propagate the miracle of the airfyer. Having had my previous experience, I would obviously go on with my rant to balance off their raving speeches and bring some cosmic equilibrium.
Then Covid hit. And travel stopped. And I ended up with several tens of thousands of frequent flyer miles that were expiring on the Dec 31st, 2020. And of course I couldn’t redeem them for future flights, as no one had any idea when we would be able to travel again. Therefore, only option was to buy something from their online shop. Now, I’m not really into consumerism so finding anything was really hard. It was already 30th of December and was running out of time.
And then the unfathomable happened. For almost exactly the number of miles I had, I could buy a fancy and fairly pricey airfyer and practically use them all. Reflecting back to this choice, my only explanation is that subconsciously, after months of lockdowns and closed borders, I must have given up any hope, so might as well even buy an airfryer.
Well, it’s been now 3 years and I have to say that it is, along with my rice cooker, the best things I have ever bought for my kitchen.
